Here at healthy Planet we always keep an eye out for great environmental events that are happening around the country and on Sunday 15th April Dorset Recycling are calling on volunteers to help give their beautiful beaches a spring clean.
By becoming a Dorset Beach Ranger for the day you can help make sure the beaches stay beautiful for the thousands of visitors who flock to Dorset’s shores every summer. More importantly removing unwelcome rubbish from the coastline aids in the survival of both onshore wildlife and marine creatures that are affected by our waste littering the beaches and floating out to sea.
The damage of our disguarded waste on marine life is significant, with ‘marine litter’ effecting thousands of species of bird, fish and mammals. It is believed that more than 1 million birds and 100,000 marine mammals die each year from becoming entangled in or ingesting pieces of marine litter.
If you are interested in becoming a Beach Ranger and lending a helping hand check out the Dorset Beach Clean 2012 timetable for details of how you can aide in the protection of our historic coastline and its wildlife.
