Here at Healthy Planet we were all incredibly proud to hear that our founder Shaylesh Patel has been shortlisted as a TalkTalk Digital Hero for the London region. Many interns pass through the Healthy Planet office and would all agree that Shaylesh deserves this accolade.
Shaylesh gave up his high powered corporate career in October 2007 to found Healthy Planet because he was worried about the state of the world and the shortening lifespan for the future generations and his own children. His mission was to inspire and enable people to make positive choices for themselves and the world.
This first began when he teamed up with Dr Mark Mulligan, a lecturer at King’s College, and they developed the Land Guardian idea which has now become the heart of Healthy Planet. Through partnering with google maps this enabled people to adopt land anywhere in the world and Healthy Planet to award this money to a conservation project in that area.
Another further part of Shaylesh’s plan was Healthy Learning. This is an initiative launched by Healthy Planet which enables schools to raise money for conservation in an area of their choice and for their school. By offering free online resources teachers have access to a new fun engaging way of making children aware of global issues such as poverty, deforestation and their impact on animals and the environment.
Shaylesh has dedicated his time to making Healthy Planet a successful online conservation charity and social enterprise where 90% of the money raised goes towards the cause. Through his commitment to inspire and enable people to make positive choices Healthy Planet has managed to get where it is today.
The winner of the award receives £5,000 which Healthy Planet would use to further Healthy Learning and raising awareness of our online resources. So please support Healthy Planet and Shaylesh by voting online now at http://www.talktalk.co.uk/we-love-the-web/digital-heroes/london
